WHAT IS MY BODY TRYING TO TELL ME?
Your body is internally connected, constantly communicating between systems and cells. This communication is critical to basic life functions, like moving, growing, and healing, all taking place on a subconscious level. Even though you may not be consciously aware of everything that’s going on inside your body, you can be sure that It’s working full-time, doing its best with available resources.
What would happen if you could discover your body’s preference for nutrition, what vitamins or minerals or enzymes it needed in order to a better job? Would you give it what it asked for? Could a proactive approach to wellness help you function at a higher level or even avoid some types of illnesses?

As a society, we spend billions of dollars each year pursuing better health. We buy drugs, try to eat the right foods and take health supplements to help us achieve and maintain peak performance. But how much of this is guess work, how do you know if you’re making the best choices for you as an individual?
Using ZYTO biocommunication you can discover specific, individualized information that will help you and your healthcare professional design a personalized health and nutrition program. It provides insights that can make a significant difference.
Providing your body with the specific nutrition and care it needs allows it to perform at its highest level. When you’re functioning on ‘all cylinders’ you feel better and have more energy. ZYTO wellness and decision support software can help you maximize your investment in health. It can assist you in getting the most out of life! If your body knows what it wants perhaps all you have to do is ask!

What is it like to get a Scan?
Getting a ZYTO biocommunication scan is a simple and painless process. Simply place your hand on the ZYTO hand cradle while a scan is run. During the scan, subtle energetic impulses are introduced to your body through multiple input channels including the hand cradle. Your body will naturally respond to this communication and the ZYTO software records each response. Although a few people may be able to sense this energetic communication, most are unaware that the scan is taking place.

TYPES OF SCANS – Scans are organized into what are called biosurveys. You’ve probably filled out a survey before; a series of questions that you provide answers to. A biosurvey is essentially the same thing, only you don’t answer the ‘questions’ consciously, you answer them subconsciously. With biocommunication scanning, the ‘question’ is the subtle energetic impulse called a Virtual Stimulus Item or VSI, and your response, which is recorded and analyzed by the ZYTO software, is a change in the electrical properties of your skin.
Different biosurveys will include different VSIs. Some biosurveys are general in nature and include VSIs concerned with overall wellness, others include VSIs relating to specific areas of the body or body processes, and some may deal with environmental factors like toxins or allergens. A biosurvey can be as varied and versatile as any other survey.
Health practitioners use ZYTO products to help them make better decisions for their patients and clients. That’s why ZYTO technology is referred to as decision support technology. It’s important to note that ZYTO scans do not treat or diagnose.

Bioenergetic Technology Overview Bioenergetic Medicine combines leading-edge technology with Western and Oriental medical theories and adds a crucial component for any practice wishing to achieve the best results with the fewest side-effects while drastically reducing cost.
Bioenergetic technology may be divided into three broad categories characterized by each unit’s degree of credibility based on A. method of measurement, B. level of interference by the practitioner, C. ability to give consistently-credible information, and D. ease of use.

How Bioenergetic Technology Interfaces with the Body
The most common method of measurement in category one and two devices is Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), which is a global marker for measuring brain activity related to clinical stress. This makes it useful not only for polygraph tests, but also to measure responses to any type of health challenge.

More specifically, in order to maintain (or regain) optimal health, the body’s systems must maintain balance. To do so, it must continually react to hundreds or thousands of stressors (bacteria, toxins, physical injury, negative emotions, and even gravity – as blood pressure throughout the body must be regulated depending on the body’s position). GSR shifts each time the brain reacts to any stressor and the degree of that reaction is captured by the measuring technology.

A Promising Future for Medicine
Bioenergetic Technology promises to revolutionize the healthcare industry by providing vast amounts of reliable information quickly, non-invasively, and inexpensively. It is not a replacement for other medical approaches, but optimizes them by assisting medical professionals in selecting the best course and easily personalizing their application to each individual patient.

Creating Hormone balance and the low down on Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

How would you like to live with vim and vigor past 100 years old?  In order to optimally live past that age you need to be hormonally and nutritionally balanced.  Many people do live to or past 100 years old, but their quality of life has been significantly reduced through illness or mobility issues.  All of the hormones in our body act in synergy, like a symphony, where all of the instruments must be in tune with each other.  Hormonal imbalance can cause symptoms in women and men of all ages.  If balanced, these hormones can help you to create a optimal health and a vibrant life.

What is a bio-identical hormone?

A hormone is a chemical released by a cell in one part of the body that sends out messages that affect cells in other parts of the body. Only a small amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism.  It is essentially a chemical messenger that transports a signal from one cell to another.  A bio-identical hormone is an exact match to those in our body.  A non bio-identical hormone has been altered in order to be a patented medication.  It is my deep understanding that the body can tell the difference and the change from the original blueprint is more toxic to the body.  The closer we stay to the original match in nature the safer the effects.

What are the major hormones in our body?

We have many hormones involved in creating balance in our bodies, here are a few:

Thyroid hormones (T3 & T4)

Estrogens (Estrone, Estradiol & Estriol)

Progesterone

Testosterone & DHEA

Cortisol

Pregnenolone

These are the major hormones that are tested for and used in hormone replacement therapy.  Many doctors will test these hormones only through blood, which is not an accurate measure of what is truly happening over a 24 hour period in the body.  Most hormones are released into the bloodstream sporadically based on the body’s need.  Once a hormone is release by a gland it slowly decreases until a feedback loop tells the gland to release more.  This is the biggest problem with solely relying on blood tests to evaluate hormone levels.  You can have your blood drawn several times per day in order to test for a single hormone and the results will change with each draw.  24 hour urine hormone assessments and salivary hormone testing has revolutionized hormonal testing by producing a much more accurate result of what is going on with your hormones.

What are some symptoms of hormone imbalance?

Can I just take the same hormone replacement pill as everyone else?

Our bodies need hormones to maintain optimal health.  They are safe and effective when used in small physiological doses and making sure the body is processing them effectively.  As Naturopathic Doctors, we will assess how your individual body is processing and utilizing hormones.  Then we will use only the smallest dose of natural bio-identical hormones to get your body into optimal physiological hormone levels.  These small biological doses allow support and balance where your body is missing the hormones all with few to no side effects as opposed to mega dosing or using non bio-identical therapies.

Hormone replacement therapy is not safe as a one size fits all treatment.  By assessing your individual levels and hormone processing a perfect balance for your body can be found and prescribed.

Keys to making hormone therapy safe and effective:

Use only Bio-identical Hormones: A true copy of nature.

Use topical hormones to decrease liver processing of hormones which will in turn increase side effects and toxicity.

Every body has an individualized level of hormones that creates perfect balance.  It is important to make sure your hormone support is individualized for your body.

Make sure that your prescription for hormones is in the smallest physiological dose in order to create balance.

Ask doctor to retest levels of your hormones every year.

Ask your doctor to test your liver processing of hormones every 1-2 years if you are taking any form of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).

Our goal is to support your health and find the underlying factors that have created excess weight gain in your body.  We utilize many pathways to weight management.  There can be many causes associated with the inability to lose weight and during a comprehensive office visit your individual causes will be discovered and treated, thereby paving the way for successful long term weight loss. We have many patients who have had significant difficulty losing weight even while following many of the popular diets, eating moderately, and exercising regularly.  One of the most successful treatments we have encountered for weight loss has been hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).  Unlike many popular diet plans hCG is used to “reset” your hypothalamus and pituitary gland thereby encouraging your endocrine system and hormones to be “reset”.  Although the use of hCG is only for a short time it has shown great results as far as long term weight management.

What is hCG?

hCG is human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a naturally occurring hormone found in the body. It is produced when a woman is pregnant. It is also a regulated prescription drug that is FDA-approved to treat infertility, ovarian dysfunction, and testicular dysfunction.  This hormone works to assist your body in utilizing fat for energy during the low calorie diet.  On the hCG diet plan your body will start to burn your fat stores for energy thus your weight loss is true fat loss instead of muscle wasting on most calories restriction progams.

How much weight is generally lost on the plan?

On average people lose four pounds a week. Many lose more, but results can vary depending on compliance with the diet plan; eating adequate vegetables & fiber while maintaining restricted calories. Stress, sleep patterns & menstrual cycles can also affect hormones & weight loss. Results vary with any plan, the average has been four pounds lost weekly.

What other changes can be noticed?

A variety of benefits are known to be linked with lower body mass index and fat loss: improved blood sugars, blood pressure, and reduced risk of diseases like cancer and heart disease. We’ve observed participants in our plan to have more energy and an overall better sense of well-being, many for the first time in many years

How was hCG for weight management discovered?

Dr. A.T. Simeons introduced using hCG and a very low calorie diet in his book “Pounds and Inches published in the 1960s. Since then, many doctors have used hCG as part of a medically-supervised weight loss programs.

People on a very low calorie diet with or without hcg lose weight.  The hCG addes ease to the low calories diet because you are not deprived and you are burning your own fat for energy.

How might hCG help with weight loss?
Dr. Simeon’s believed hCG improved body tone, mobilized fat stores, and/or reduced cravings or hunger. hCG does influence hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. We know that testosterone can improve lean body mass, progesterone can reduce fluid retention, and estrogen is stored in fat. With that in mind, it makes sense that a hormone like hCG, that can influence these hormones, may impact lean body mass or fat. Like with other hormones, all actions of hCG are not yet known.

What makes the weight management plan at Cypress different?

Simplicity! We are committed to seeing you get great results safely and easily. Although use of any drug and aggressive weight loss carries risk, we take safety steps others don’t. For example, unlike other clinics that buy their hCG from the internet or outside the country, we use hCG from reputable pharmacies that we have used for some time.  Please know your sources for all medications, specifically hCG.

Unlike other clinics that use Dr. Simeon’s original diet, we use a healthier diet adding plant medicines and vitamins (when needed) to promote health for you. Unlike other clinics that simply have people sign a waiver, we only enroll participants who have had recent labs and an interview with a doctor enter the program— to make sure you have the best results possible.

Unlike other clinics that have you keep coming back week after week, we recognize that the long term use of hCG may have (unknown) risks so we restrict duration of our programs to 3 or 6 weeks at a time. In our weight loss plan, your progress is monitored by a doctor. A doctor instructs you on the initial plan, how to administer and use hCG, and what to do long term to help you keep the weight off.

Many men & women who have elevated body fat levels can participate in our hCG Weight Management Plan. Women who are pregnant / nursing, or anyone who has had a hormone-related cancer should not participate. Â If you are not a candidate for hCG, we have other plans that although achieve slower results, would be better for you.

Is such a low calorie diet healthy?

Following a restricted calorie diet combined with hCG is safe when under a doctor’s supervision.  This is not a healthy diet for long term and should only be used for short periods of time with other supportive measures.  The very low calorie diet alone can lead to nutritional deficiencies, fatigue, low blood sugar, and potential loss of lean muscle.  This diet needs to be done under supervision and with the support of hCG.

Will I gain the weight back after the hCG Weight Management Plan?

Most people have kept the weight off. Our clients have reported that their appetite & eating patterns have changed for the better. To help you get lasting results, one of our doctors will educate you on a long term healthy eating plan. Healthy weight is a lifelong process. It is important to keep on a healthy eating plan to maintain your good results.

If you have any questions or want to get started, Please call us at 650-323-7345 today to schedule an appointment or enquire about a 15 minute free consultation.

FDA disclaimer: hCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie- restricted diets. The FDA has not approved hCG for weight loss.

Osteopathy

(excerpted from the American Academy of Osteopathy’s pamphlet “Osteopathic Medicine: A Distinctive Branch of Mainstream Medical Care”)

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are fully licensed and recognized physicians and surgeons who stress the unity of all body systems.  They bring a hands-on approach to medicine and view palpation and manipulation as aids to the diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses.

Osteopathic medicine was founded on the Missouri frontier in 1874.  Dr. Andrew Taylor Still was an individualistic and strong-willed MD who was dissatisfied with the ineffectiveness of nineteenth-century medicine.  He decried the rudimentary drugs and surgery of the day and saw many people, including his own three children, die from serious diseases.  Concepts such as anesthesia, sterile surgery, antiseptics, antibiotics, and x-rays were not imagined in the 1870s.

In response, Dr. Still founded a philosophy of medicine that harkened back to Hippocrates, with its central focus on the body unity.  He identified the musculoskeletal system as a key element of health.  He recognized the body’s capability to heal.  He stressed preventative medicine, eating properly, and keeping fit.

He identified palpation and the human touch as vital to gaining patient confidence and providing effective medical care.  And he stressed manipulation as a less-intrusive form of diagnosis and treatment.

The Human Body is a Unified Organism

Osteopathic physicians emphasize that all body systems, including the musculoskeletal system, operate in unison- and disturbances in one system can alter functions of other systems.  By recognizing the close relationship between body structure and organic functioning, the DO has a broader base for treating the whole patient.

Osteopathic physicians not only recognize the interdependence of all parts of that complex machine- the human body- but also consider the patient’s mental and emotional status.  In addition, the DO pays attention to the relationship of the patient to his or her home environment, job, and other factors that affect health.

The Body’s Musculoskeletal System is Central to the Patient’s Well Being

This system includes the bones, muscles, tendons, tissues, nerves, and spinal column- about 60% of the body mass.  The musculoskeletal framework is far more than an anatomical rack on which other organs are hung.  It works in concert with all other organs.  It may respond- properly or improperly- when a breath is drawn or body movement occurs.  Besides being prone to mechanical disorders, the musculoskeletal system reflects many internal illnesses and may aggravate or accelerate the process of disease in the circulatory, lymphatic, nervous, or other body systems.

The body has a natural tendency toward health, as well s the capacity to resist disease and to heal itself

The body’s own healing power, vis medicatrix naturae, is a main principle of osteopathic medicine and a basic condition of all diagnosis and treatment.  Therefore, osteopathic practice is designed to support, stimulate and, in some instances, initiate the body’s trend toward health.

Naturopathic doctors seek to discover
and treat the underlying causes of
illness versus just treating the
symptoms

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct and defined system of Primary Care Medicine which honors the innate healing capabilities within each person. It is not merely the accumulation of various natural products and therapies used to treat disease. Naturopathic Medicine is strongly based on the philosophy of discovering the underlying causes of illness within the individual versus focusing on the suppression of specific symptoms. It is a person-centered medicine versus a disease-centered medicine, which is found in conventional healthcare. Each patient is treated as an individual versus an illness or condition. Naturopathic Medicine focuses on the study of health, versus the study of disease. Each patient is an active participant in the restoration of their health in order to treat current health issues and prevent future illness. The goal of Naturopathic Medicine is to discover and treat the underlying causes of illness within the individual through the use of natural therapies in order to restore a state of optimal health. Natural therapies include:

•	Diet & Lifestyle Counseling
•	Clinical Nutrition
•	Nutrient Therapy
•	Environmental Medicine
•	Clinical Detoxification (includes Heavy Metal Detoxification)
•	Botanical Medicine
•	Homeopathy
•	Craniosacral Therapy
•	Hydrotherapy

Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.) are licensed as Primary Care Doctors in the State of California, as well as many other states, and are experts in the field of Natural & Alternative Medicine. Each Naturopathic Doctor must complete a postgraduate medical education from an accredited naturopathic institution. Naturopathic Doctors are distinct from acupuncturists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and medical doctors. They are uniquely trained to provide a comprehensive and integrated approach to assist the body’s innate healing processes. Naturopathic Doctors are skilled in the use of natural therapeutics including clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, laboratory medicine, natural childbirth, and hydrotherapy. These approaches are tailored to the individual in order to treat the underlying causes of illness, thereby optimizing health. Naturopathic medicine is effective in treating most health problems, whether acute or chronic. Naturopathic Doctors cooperate with all other branches within the medical field, referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate. The naturopathic medical approach allows for the best continuity of care and overall treatment for each patient.

Naturopathic Medical Education

Bastyr University is one of the world’s
leading academic centers for advancing
knowledge in Natural Medicine

As with all doctors today, Naturopathic Doctors are trained at accredited, four to five-year, post-graduate, medical institutions. The education is divided evenly between academic and clinical training. The first two years of training consist of a comprehensive study of the conventional medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical and physical diagnosis, and laboratory diagnosis. Each student then sits for Basic Sciences Board Exams which are overseen by The National Academic Board of Naturopathic Examiners. The second two to three years of training focuses on the conventional and naturopathic perspectives and approaches to the clinical aspects of cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology, dermatology, endocrinology, pharmacology, etc. Also, during this time, students complete extensive outpatient rotations in naturopathic medicine, homeopathy, clinical nutrition, counseling, and physical medicine. All of the training is conducted under the supervision of experienced, licensed Naturopathic Doctors and Medical Doctors and involves complete patient evaluations, laboratory testing, monitoring, and treatment. After graduation, students are then required to pass Clinical Sciences Board Exams in order to become eligible for state licensure. To learn more about education and the naturopathic medicine program at Bastyr University, please visit www.bastyr.edu.
Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine
provides safe, gentle, and
effective treatment options
for many common and
complex health conditions

•	First Do No Harm. Naturopathic Doctors prefer non-invasive treatments which minimize the risks of harmful side effects. They are trained to know which patients they can treat safely and which ones they need to refer to other healthcare providers.

•	Find the Cause. Every illness has an underlying cause which can often be found in certain aspects of the individual’s lifestyle, environment or diet. Naturopathic Doctors are trained to find and treat the underlying cause of disease within each individual.

•	The Healing Power of Nature. This principle is based on the belief that the body has the innate ability to heal itself if given the correct circumstances. Natural forces act powerfully through the healing mechanisms already present in the mind and body of the individual. These forces maintain and restore health naturally. This is called the homeostatic principle of physiology. When these mechanisms become overwhelmed, they can breakdown. Naturopathic Doctors work to restore and support these natural and inherent healing systems. They do so by utilizing methods, remedies and techniques that are in harmony with these natural processes.

•	Treat the Whole Person. Health or disease comes from a complex interaction of physical, emotional, mental, dietary, genetic, environmental, lifestyle and other factors. Naturopathic Doctors treat the individual as a whole person, making sure to take all of these factors into account. In its approach, Naturopathic Medicine is similar to the wisdom of the past as seen in ancient healing systems such as Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Homeopathy.

•	Preventative Medicine. The naturopathic approach to healthcare can prevent minor illnesses from developing into more serious or chronic degenerative diseases. Patients are taught the principles by which they can prevent major illnesses and live a healthy and vibrant health.

Homeopathy is a safe,
effective and gentle
form of medicine for
the entire family

Homeopathy is a highly systematic, scientific method of therapy which stimulates the individuals own healing processes. Homeopathy is a rejuvenation of an ancient concept of health and disease. It is based on a deep understanding of the person as a unique whole, and is useful in both chronic and acute diseases. Treatment is based on the health of the entire person, not just for one part or organ system.

It is important to understand that symptoms are a sign of the individual trying to heal itself. The task of the doctor is to gather as much information as possible in order to understand all the ways in which the person’s healing forces are already acting. A homeopathic medicine that matches a patient’s symptomatology will stimulate those healing forces and lead to a resolution of symptoms.

Homeopathic medicines are prepared from over 2000 mineral, plant, and animal sources. Each medicine has been experimentally tested on human beings, called provings, in order to determine which type of individual responds most strongly to which substance. A complete picture of symptoms is compiled based on the precise physical, emotional, and mental responses of each individual. The picture represents the resonance between an individual and the medicine. The task of the homeopath during the interview is to match the total symptom picture and personality of the patient with the experimentally-determined symptom picture of one of the medicines.

What to Expect?
An initial constitutional homeopathic intake is 2 hours in length as the doctor collects as much information as possible regarding the mental, emotional and physical health of the individual. Since there are over 2000 homeopathic remedies available, it is important for the doctor to thoroughly understand the individual and each symptom that is occurring in order to accurately prescribe the most effective medicine possible. A homeopathic medicine is often prescribed at the end of the initial visit. In difficult cases, the doctor may need to more thoroughly study the case in order to prescribe the most indicated medicine. This is typically less than 3 days. A return office visit is then scheduled for 4 weeks after the remedy is prescribed to assess the effectiveness of the medicine on the individual.

An acute homeopathic intake requires far less time and is typically included, if needed, in a standard naturopathic visit. Acute cases require follow-up within 3 – 5 days. In acute diseases, relief can occur within a few hours to a day or two. In chronic diseases, however, improvement is typically slow, steady and gradual. The speed of improvement is mostly dependent on the severity and duration of the disease coupled with the individual’s vitality. It is important to understand that chronic disease did not occur overnight, so the complete resolution of symptoms usually takes some time.

Craniosacral Therapy gently stimulates
the body’s natural healing abilites

Craniosacral Technique refers to the link between the cranium or head and sacrum, the bone at the base of your spine. For decades (since the early 1900′s) various forms of cranial manipulation have been used to treat a range of conditions, from headaches and ear infections to stroke, spinal cord injury and nervous system disorders.
Everyone is familiar with the body’s cardiac rhythm and the rhythm of your breath. Yet there is a third important life sustaining rhythm called the craniosacral rhythm that results from the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spine.
The craniosacral therapist is skilled at feeling this subtle movement and areas of restriction in the skull, spine, sacrum, joints and muscles. Areas of restriction lead to decrease in nerve transmission, flow of vital fluids and then to symptoms of pain and discomfort. These areas of restriction lead to stresses of the system and contribute to dysfunction and poor health. The touch is extremely gentle and sensitive, so your treatment will be relaxing and enjoyable.

What can Craniosacral Therapy do for my health?

Patients often experience freedom
and relief from their physical, mental,
and emotional symptoms

Craniosacral therapy is a hands-on approach that involves “listening with the fingers” to the body’s subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia and congestion. The emphasis of treatment is to encourage and enhance the body’s own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities, even in the most acute pathologies.

What can I expect during a Craniosacral Therapy treatment session?
Craniosacral Therapy uses very light touch and is suitable for people of all ages, including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases. You will laying comfortably on a treatment table while only removing shoes and jewelry.

Allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, costing the health care system $18 billion annually. NIAID, Dec.2004

NAET has been described in the book (1000p): “Alternative Medicine, The Definitive Guide”, as “one of the fastest-growing new therapies in the field of alternative medicine”.

BioSET is the evolution of NAET developed by Dr. Ellen Cutler that is rapidly garnering attention as medicine for the 21st century.

Zyto is the most advanced form of the two prior techniques. It is truly a medical breakthrough.

What is an allergy?

Viennese pediatrician Baron Clemens von Pirquet coined the term “allergy” (from the Greek “allos” meaning changed or altered state and “ergon” meaning reaction or reactivity) in 1906. Von Pirquet used the term to describe an altered reaction he had observed in patients, which he put down to the influence of external factors, an allergen, on the immune system.

Allergies are reactions of the immune system to specific substances called allergens (such as pollen, stings, drugs, or food) that, in most people, result in no symptoms. The most severe form of allergy is anaphylactic shock, which is a medical emergency.

What’s the difference between allergy and sensitivity, and intolerance?

Allergy: This term is used by the medical profession and allergy specialists to denote the body reactions involving the entire immune system, particularly the IgE (immuno-globulin, type E) immune reaction. These IgE antibodies can be measured by a blood or scratch test.

During an allergic process, the substance responsible for causing the allergy, or allergen, binds to allergic antibodies present on allergic cells in a person’s body, including mast cells and basophils. The mast cells and basophils then release inflammatory chemicals such as histamine and leukotrienes, resulting in allergic symptoms.

The allergic person can make allergic antibodies, or IgE antibodies, against a variety of allergens, including pollens, molds, animal danders, dust mites, foods, venoms and medications. This occurs through a process called sensitization, where a persons immune system is exposed to enough of the allergen to make the body produce allergic antibodies to that substance. For example, food allergies are an immune system reaction in which undigested food particles are absorbed into the bloodstream and perceived as if they were foreign proteins. The body makes antibodies against the undigested food because the immune system views these proteins as unrecognizable and thus as a foreign invader. With later exposures, that same allergen binds to its corresponding IgE on allergic cells, and the body reacts with symptoms of allergies. Allergic symptoms can vary somewhat with the type of allergen and route of exposure (airborne pollen exposure may cause different symptoms than eating a food to which you are allergic).

Sensitivity: Similar to an allergy, but generally involves IgG antibodies instead of IgE antibodies. IgG antibodies are the slowly occurring variety, and do not appear in the blood until 24 to 72 hours after exposure to an offending food or substance. This will result in a delayed onset of symptoms. IgG antibodies can also be detected by a blood test.

Intolerance: Here, the problem is not with the body’s immune system, but, rather, with its metabolism. This term refers to a food intolerance, which is characterized by a missing enzyme that is needed to digest a particular food. Familiar examples include the enzyme lactase which is necessary to digest milk products, and the enzyme needed to digest beans. Both cause intestinal problems, mostly gas from the fermentation of the food instead of digestion.

NAET, BioSET, and Zyto view an allergy quite simply:

An allergy is anything that causes the body to react negatively. Reactions encompass a broad spectrum of symptoms, ranging from itchy eyes and a runny nose to eczema, fatigue, or digestive upset.

How do I know if I have allergies?

Allergic symptoms cover a wide range, depending on the individual and the particular allergen.

Hay fever, whether due to pollen, trees, grass, dust, weeds, or chemicals, has a detrimental effect on organs such as the throat, the nose, the larynx (voice box), the trachea, and the bronchioles. When allergens infiltrate the nose, hay fever symptoms occur. This can include symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and nasal discharge. When allergies affects the throat, a patient can experience itching and scratchiness. When the larynx is affected by an allergy, hoarseness and voice loss can occur. Environmental allergies also affect the airways, resulting in asthma and bronchitis. Â Here is a partial list of allergic symptoms:

Meridian Energy and Allergy

According to the Chinese system of medicine, the Qi energy flows along specific pathways in the body, known as meridians. Sickness is viewed as a blockage of the energy flow along the meridians. If the energy flow can be restored to normal, good health will return. Needles inserted at specific points along the meridians can restore the energy flow to normal.

The body’s energy is not confined to the energy that flows through the meridians. Every cell in the body is a bundle of energy: ATP, electrical currents in the heart cells, and muscle fibers. Energy is involved in every process in our bodies, including the biochemical changes within our cells. In this sense, any disease or malfunction, including allergy, is really an energy disturbance. When allergy is present, it means that the flow of energy is blocked, disturbed, or unbalanced, and therefore that the biochemical processes are not proceeding properly.

NAET and BioSET are energetic procedures designed to restore balance in the body with respect to a particular allergen. By combining exposure to the allergen with a specialized balancing treatment protocol, the body’s energy is reprogrammed so that it no longer clashes with the allergen’s energy.

Balanced Health

Energetic testing for allergies

The body’s meridian energy is connected to the muscles of the body. If you are exposed to the energy field of a substance to which you are allergic, it disturbs your energy flow. This energy disturbance is manifested in the form of a weakened muscle.

Muscle testing, or applied kinesiology, is one method to identify allergic substances that are interfering with the body’s energy flow. Unlike the traditional allergy testing methods, muscle testing does not require that we observe an actual allergic response. Rather, if a substance has the ability to weaken the muscle being tested, we deduce that that energy is being disturbed and that the person is sensitive to that substance. Thus, muscle testing can identify more subtle allergies and sensitivities whose effects are not directly or immediately observable.

Special computers, such as the Biomeridian, are capable of directly measuring these energy imbalances. The Biomeridian is an FDA approved device that is used to screen and desensitize allergies. The basic principle of the Biomeridian computer is the same as muscle testing, but the Biomeridian is capable of physically measuring the energetic stress or blockages associated with a sensitivity or allergic response. Computerized sensitivity screening takes muscle testing one step further, allowing the practitioner to quantitate the degree of sensitivity with a computerized readout. Computer software is used to register the conductance of an electrical charge at an acupuncture point. The process is simple and painless: an initial baseline scan is done on an acupuncture point on the surface of the skin. These acupuncture points are considered to be “information access windows”. Once baseline conductivity is established, frequencies of over 40,000 different potential foods, allergens, medications, and stressors can be output and the body’s response to each of these items can be measured. The response to different frequencies will affect the concentrations of the ions at the measurement points along the meridian. Inflammation may cause an increase ion concentration, and this increase of ions enhances the flow of electrons causing resistance to decrease while the conductance increases. Conversely, a weakened response may cause decease in ion concentration that hinders the flow of electrons, so as the resistance increases conductance decreases. A measurement of 50 is considered a balanced reading. Above 60 indicates an increased conductance of the body in response to a stressor, which is suggestive of an inflammatory process. Below 45 indicates decreased conductance, which signifies a more chronic weakness, or degeneration.

NAET: Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique

Nambudripad

The NAET technique was developed in 1984 by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, who began teaching it to other health professionals in 1989. There are now about 5000 NAET practitioners worldwide.

Current distribution by medical specialization is roughly as follows: 15% medical doctors, 40% acupuncturists, 30% chiropractors and 15% others (homeopaths, dentists, osteopaths, physiotherapists, naturopaths, etc.).

Allergy

An allergy is an adverse physical, physiological, and/or psychological response of an individual towards one or more substances also known as allergens.  However, these substances may be harmless, well tolerated or even useful for most people. Dr. Nambudripad’s approach is the same for full-blown allergies involving the release of immunoglobulin type E (IgE-mediated reactions) in the body, and for intolerances, sensitivities and hypersensitivities (non-IgE mediated reactions). Her technique diagnoses and treats them all in the same way.

NAET believes that allergic reactions are determined by the way in which the brain perceives the substance in question. If the brain considers the substance a threat to the body, it will order the immune system to mobilize its defenses to fight the intruding substance. This manifests as an allergic reaction whose initial signs are aimed at chasing the intruder away. However, more often than not this perception is erroneous and our brain actually betrays us by triggering an inappropriate response, manifesting as allergic symptoms.

When a person consumes a food substance or inhales something the body believes is harmful, the immune system also mistakenly believes that the substance is harmful. In its attempt to protect the body, the immune system creates specific antibodies. The next time the individual eats that food or inhales the allergen, the immune system releases chemicals and histamines in order to protect the body. These chemicals trigger a cascade of allergic symptoms that can affect all the systems of the body such as the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, genitourinary system, skin, the mind, the nervous system, and the cardiovascular system. According to traditional medicine, the only way to treat allergies is to avoid the foods or substances that are triggering the reactions. NAET is a technique that reprograms the body to eliminate these allergic symptoms, effectively eliminating the need for lifelong avoidance.

Elimination

Dr. Nambudripad discovered that if the roots of the sympathetic nervous system are given specific stimuli, the brain will receive messages that enable it to correct its faulty perception of the substance concerned (analogous to a computer “reset”). These new messages will be permanently imprinted in the brain after a number of other acupressure/acupuncture points have been stimulated, provided the patient follows certain precise rules for a specified time period after the treatment. This “reprogramming” constitutes the core part of the NAET methodology, and this theory has been extensively verified for more than fifteen years with highly satisfactory, long-lasting results. After the treatment, the incompatibly or clash of energies disappears completely and there is no trace of allergy, sensitivity or intolerance when the patient next comes into contact with the substance. This is because NAET treats the cause of the allergy, not the resulting symptoms.

Technique

NAET utilizes a combination of modalities to detect and desensitize patients from their allergies. NAET is an all natural and drug-free solution to eliminate allergies of all types and intensities by using a blend of testing and treatment procedures from acupuncture, allopathy, chiropractic, nutritional, and kinesiological disciplines of medicine. Applied kinesiology, or muscle response testing (MRT), is used to determine the allergic substance, or allergen, causing the allergic reaction. Computerized testing is now also available by equipped practitioners. Once the allergen has been determined, a chiropractic acupressure technique on the spine is used to desensitize the patient to the allergen. Acupuncture, acupressure, or cold laser is then given to keep the patient clear of their allergy. When NAET is done in the presence of a given allergen, an allergic reaction should not result upon future contact with that same substance. When this result is obtained, the patient is clear of his or her allergy to that substance.

BioSET: Bioenergetic Desensitization and Enzyme Therapy

Bioenergetic Testing

BioSET builds upon the NAET protocol, using computerized bioresonance. Computer assisted technology has greatly improved the more permanent clearing of the sensitivities, and also quickened the process of the BioSET clearing of sensitivities.

Sensitivity

As previously explained, each allergen or substance has a unique and specific resonant energy signal. An individual can react to that signal (via the various meridians of the human body) which is profiled on a computer with BioSET. The bioresonance device, in combination with the BioSET system, can recognize a resistance or dissonance and then reverse the resonant energy which directs or reprograms an allergen through the acupuncture meridians and nervous system which then becomes a permanent memory of the individual. This device is also thought to take the body’s own electro-magnetic signals, alter them and then feed them back into the body. Feeding this altered signal back into the body cancels out the pathological electronic information coming from viruses, bacteria, chemical toxins. food and environmental sensitivities. This causes the cells of the body to start pushing out and eliminating these disease-causing factors, and as the root causes of disease are removed from the body, healing can take place. Clinical symptoms are alleviated and tolerance to the specific allergen can be seen immediately. Re-testing on the computer or via kinesiological testing can verify this change. Many so-called permanent sensitivities can be reversed as well as many chronic health problems resolved with BioSET and the new bioresonance instrumentation.

Enzyme Therapy

There are three basic categories of enzymes: metabolic enzymes, digestive enzymes, and enzymes in raw foods. Metabolic enzymes run body processes, repair damage and decay, and heal disease, while digestive enzymes assimilate carbohydrates, proteins and fats into the body.

The human body makes approximately 22 digestive enzymes, capable of digesting protein, carbohydrates, sugars, and fats. The function of the enzyme, a specialized protein molecule, is to catalyze chemical reactions within the cells so that all physiological processes can occur.

There are four categories of plant enzymes that have uses in plant enzyme therapy: 1) protease-digests protein, 2) amylase-digests carbohydrates, 3) lipase-digests fat, 4) cellulase-digests fiber.

What is homeopathy and how does it relate to allergy elimination?

Instead of holding the actual allergen during an allergy treatment, you may be given a small homeopathic vial to hold. Homeopathics have energy too. The vial contains the energetic imprint of a particular allergen. Specialized computers may also be programmed to output homeopathic energies.

Homeopathics are made by taking a small amount of any substance, allergen, medicinal herb, or metal, and diluting it to a tiny percentage in water. A small amount of this solution is removed, and diluted again in another large batch. This process is repeated until the dilution is so small that none of the original material exists – only the frequency, like a “memory” of the herb or element, is left in the water.

BioSET therapy also incorporates the use of oral homeopathics to assist the body with detoxification.

NAET allergen vials

Activity:

Practice muscle testing with a partner to detect possible allergies and sensitivities. With sufficient practice you can become quite proficient. Ask your practitioner to correlate your findings with a computerized screen.

Steps:

Have the person being tested extend their dominant arm out at a 90 degree angle.

Slowly push down on the extended arm at the wrist and ask the person to resist against you. The object is to establish a baseline measurement, not to evaluate the absolute power of the muscle.

If the person is unable to exert a sufficient resistance pressure against your push, have them drink a glass of water or have them massage clockwise just below the navel and on their chest. This helps to balance them for the testing.

Place a vial or actual allergen in the hand of the arm not being tested. You can use anything—an apple, a peanut, an egg, a flower, etc. Repeat the muscle test, asking the person to resist. An arm that holds strong indicates no allergy. If the person is allergic to the substance, their arm will immediately and markedly weaken. Any weakness or dropping of the arm is a sign of allergy.

Computerized Medicine FAQs

Explanation of the readings

There are two types of computerized testing methods: the high/low and the dynamic testing. The high/low testing is more specific for testing inflammation. The dynamic testing is geared towards detecting imbalances in general, which may include inflammation, an allergy or sensitivity, metabolic processes, or nutritional deficiencies.

High low testing for inflammation

Computer software is used to register the conductance of an electrical charge at an acupuncture point. The process is simple and painless: an initial baseline scan is done on an acupuncture point on the surface of the skin. Below 45 indicates decreased conductance, which signifies a more chronic weakness, or degeneration.

Dynamic testing for imbalances

Here we are looking at the shape of a curve, rather than the height of a line. Pressure is applied to the palm of the hand with the electrical probe, and a baseline is recorded. A small initial rise followed by a plateau, and then a subsequent rise, indicates a balanced reading. The plateau signifies the body’s ability to adapt or balance. As different frequencies are output, the body will either maintain balance, or respond to a signal with stress. A stressed or imbalanced signal will appear as a rise only; the lack of a plateau indicates inability to balance or adapt with respect to the particular signal.

Is it possible that my readings can change from one day to the next?

The body is a dynamic and intimately interconnected system. It is constantly on the search for homeostasis, or balance, and will utilize compensatory mechanisms to maintain equilibrium. Symptoms are merely the body’s manifestation of this quest for balance. For example, high intake of salt will trigger biochemical pathways within the body to release hormones that will signal the body to retain water, in order to balance the increased levels of salt. The blood sodium levels will therefore fluctuate over time, but maintain a general range. The same goes for blood pressure, electrolyte levels, glucose levels, cholesterol levels, etc. Blood work at a laboratory will reflect these phenomena of subtle fluxes. We’ve all seen our levels change slightly from one blood test to the next. Similarly, bioenergetic sensitivities and imbalances may be detected at certain times under various conditions, but it is the generalized readings that are of consequence and relevance. Computerized bioenergetic scans are able to detect such subtle energies that it is possible to detect minute changes, sensitivities, and imbalances that we may not even be aware of. The key take home point is that computerized screens are an excellent tool for detecting imbalances and sensitivities, but like any other testing, a range must be allowed.

Reasons why a treatment did not hold

Too many items cleared at once, underlying issue not addressed, microbial pathogen overload, adrenal imbalance, structural or emotional trauma.

Tips for maximizing treatment effects

The body requires a proper foundation upon which to build balance and strength. It is imperative to address any nutritional deficiencies through a sound dietary plan and high quality supplementation. Like a car, the body requires gas to run on. Higher quality gas increases performance, while a lack of gas prevents the car from running. Similarly, higher quality nutrition will increase the body’s ability to perform, and malnutrition will cause deficiencies. Statistics show that todays food has a lower nutrient than ever before, due to soil depletion, fertilization methods, and lack of rotational farming. Ironically, as our stress levels increase, we have increased nutritional needs that are not being met by our current food supply. Even a healthy and organic diet is often not sufficient to provide adequate nutrients for todays lifestyle needs. Nutrients and metabolism are so intricately linked that any shortage of enzymes, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, or fatty acids can prevent the body from conducting its optimal biochemical cellular reactions, which are vital for good health. In short, the body requires adequate substrates, or the raw building blocks of nutrition, to maintain equilibrium. These building blocks come from food, clean water, and/or supplements.

Likewise, it is important to detoxify any underlying virus, bacteria, fungus, parasite, or mycoplasma. This may be done via BioSET treatments coupled with detoxifiying herbs, homeopathic formulas, and/or enzymes.

Exercise is also essential to maintain proper metabolic rates and overall wellness. A mix of strength and cardiovascular is best, and basic forms include yoga, pilates, stretching, weight training, running, bicycling, swimming, and walking/hiking,

A daily meditation, breathing, or centering practice will promote alignment of the chakras and enhance mental and spiritual well-being.

History of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a powerful
therapy for the treatment
of pain and chronic disease

Acupuncture originated in China more than 2,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It began to garner attention in the United States in 1971, when New York Times reporter James Reston experienced acupuncture firsthand and wrote an article about how the doctors in China used needles to ease his pain after surgery. In the past two decades, acupuncture has continued to grow in popularity within the US, prompting the National Institute of Health (NIH) to declare acupuncture as widely practiced by thousands of physicians, dentists, acupuncturists, and other practitioners for relief or prevention of pain and for various other health conditions.”

What is acupuncture?
The term acupuncture describes a family of procedures involving the stimulation of anatomical points called acupoints on the body with hair-thin, solid, metallic needles. Acupuncture is one of the key components of the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In the TCM system of medicine, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing forces, yin and yang. One of the major assumptions in TCM is that health is achieved by maintaining the body in a balanced state, and that disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of vital energy, or qi, along pathways known as meridians. There are 14 main meridian pathways though out the body, and more than 2,000 acupoints along these meridians. Stimulation of these points with tiny acupuncture needles serves to regulate the flow of qi along these meridians.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture reestablishes balance
within the body in order to increase
health and wellbeing.

It is proposed that acupuncture produces its effects through regulation of the nervous system. It effectiveness in treating pain may be due to the release of pain-killing biochemicals such as endorphins at specific sites in the body. Studies have also shown that acupuncture may alter brain chemistry by changing the release of neurotransmitters that affect parts of the central nervous system related to sensation and involuntary body functions, such as immune reactions and processes that regulate blood pressure and blood flow.

For more information on scientific findings about acupuncture, visit the NIH web site for acupuncture and complementary medicine at www.nccam.nih.gov.

Is acupuncture safe?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved acupuncture needles for use by licensed practitioners in 1996. The FDA requires needles to be single-use, sterile, and nontoxic.

What conditions does acupuncture treat?
Recent studies by the NIH have shown the efficacy of acupuncture in treating many types of pain and nausea. Acupuncture has also been shown to be effective for treating other conditions such as headache, menstrual cramps, sports injuries, myofascial pain, arthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma, addiction, and stroke rehabilitation. In addition to the above conditions, acupuncture is useful for the treatment of digestive disorders, skin conditions, depression, anxiety, insomnia, infertility, adjunctive cancer care, and allergies.

Who may use acupuncture?
Licensed acupuncturists, physicians, dentists, and podiatrists may all practice acupuncture in the state of California.

What is the difference between a licensed acupuncturist and an acupuncture physician?
Licensed acupuncturists (L.Ac) must have a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine from an accredited university and have completed a 3000 hour program consisting of instruction and training in acupuncture, herbology, Chinese medical theory, and Western medicine. Licensed acupuncturists are required to pass a comprehensive examination upon their graduation administered by the California State Board of Acupuncture. An acupuncture physician (DABMA) is a physician, dentist, or podiatrist who has completed 300 hours of instruction in basic acupuncture techniques and passed a proficiency examination administered by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture.

For more information regarding licensing and certification please visit the California State Board of Acupuncture website at www.acupuncture.ca.gov and the American Board of Medical Acupuncture website at www.dabma.org.

What to expect on your first visit

Acupuncture is a safe, gentle
therapy for many acute and
chronic health complaints

Many aspects of your initial acupuncture treatment resemble a conventional Western visit. A full health history will be taken, along with basic vital signs. The acupuncturist may perform a physical exam. Questions will be asked regarding symptoms, health, and lifestyle. An acupuncturist will also check pulses and look at your tongue, which are two components of the TCM system of diagnosis. The 12 pulse positions on the wrist each correspond to a specific meridian and organ. The tongue is viewed as a map of the body that reflects the general health of the meridians and organs. This information is then used to create a complete and accurate assessment of both the Western diagnosis and the TCM diagnosis of where the qi has become blocked or imbalanced. Based on this diagnosis, the acupuncturist will devise a treatment plan that may include acupuncture, herbs, dietary recommendations, and specific exercises.

How should I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes so that it is easy for the acupuncturist to locate and needle points on your arms and legs.

What does acupuncture feel like?
Acupuncture needles are sterile, metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel minimal or no pain as the needles are inserted. You may experience a vague tingling, numbness, or heaviness where the acupuncture needle has been inserted. Sometimes people experience a sensation of energy spreading and moving around the needle. These reactions are a sign that the treatment is working. Generally the needles are retained for 15-30 minutes and then removed. After the treatment, you may feel energized or may experience a deep sense of relaxation and well being.

Rejuvenation can make you
look and feel years younger

Acupuncture Facials and Photo Rejuvenation could be the answer that you have been looking for. Treat your skin to an acupuncture facelift. Women in China have used facial acupuncture for centuries to maintain a youthful appearance. Now you too can discover acupuncture facials, ionic infusions, and cold laser photo rejuvenation as a safe, all-natural, and painless alternative to surgical facelifts and botox injections.

What is an Acupuncture Facelift?
Special facial acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on the face that relax the facial muscles and stimulate collagen production. This helps to increase tone and eliminate wrinkles. Acupuncture facials are safe, gentle and very effective at reducing wrinkles, fine lines, puffiness, and other signs of aging.

What does Facial Acupuncture do?
Increases collagen and elasticity of the skin
Tightens the skin on the face
Improves muscle tone
Hydrates the skin
Drains lymph and edema and helps to eliminate toxins

What are Ionic Infusions?
Ionic infusions are painless, needleless injections that use a minute electrical current to inject and infuse collagen-building and wrinkle-reducing agents deep into the skin. Pharmeceutical grade Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are two of the popular treatments which reduce wrinkles and even the skin tone. The Hyaluronic Acid treatment is similar to the medical Restylane injections, but without the side effects of the Restylane injections such as swelling, bruising, and tenderness.

What is Photo Rejuvenation?
Your skin has the ability to absorb infrared light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate cellular regeneration. LED and laser light therapy, first researched by NASA for use in the U.S. Space Program, can reverse and control the visible signs of aging and help you look younger without harsh chemical peels or invasive surgical procedures. Tightening of skin, smoothing of wrinkles and rough spots, disappearing blemishes, softening of redness, and shrinking of pore size can be achieved with this pain-free natural light treatment.
Photo rejuvenation refers to the light produced at specific frequencies that stimulates fibroblast cell activity in the skin, which increases the production of collagen and elastin—the proteins responsible for your skin’s tone and elasticity. Specific wavelengths in the blue, red, and infrared spectrum have been found to target antioxidant activity, reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, and promote new cell growth. The effects of light therapy on the skin and body have been reported in over 2000 scientific reports and documents:
